Cells in the human body create energy. While they are creating energy, they produce waste. This waste is generally in the form of oxygen molecules that are unstable. These molecules or atoms are unstable because they have an electron which is unpaired. The molecules with unpaired electrons are called free radicals. Free radicals are trouble to normal molecules in the body. The human body is always under attack. Viruses, UV light, bacteria and even free radicals are constantly trying to invade or destroy normal cell function. Free radicals are one of the most talked-about threats at this time. These invaders are actually a byproduct of normal cell function. These molecules also come from sources outside of the body like air pollution or smoking. To protect your body from these free radicals, a diet high in antioxidants is recommended.

There are several ideas circulating within the Free Radical Theory of Aging.

The first idea is that free radicals cause diseases which then quicken aging. The second idea is that all aging is caused by the influence of free radicals. This means that without free radicals, cells could in theory, continually repair themselves. It is thought that free radicals actually damage the very DNA of the human body.

Studies have also shown that caloric restriction might help to suppress the development of certain diseases that are thought to be caused by free radical exposure. Scientists have also tested the theory that increased consumption of antioxidants might help to slow or even reverse cellular damage caused by free radicals.

radicals have on the human body. Nor can they agree on what is the best

Other foods that are rich in antioxidants include leafy green vegetables and root vegetables. Carrots and beets are among the root vegetables that most helpful in combating the aging process.

Carrots contain vitamins that protect the eyes as well as skin cells. Beets are thought to increase the flow of blood to certain parts of the human brain. Increased blood flow promotes the healthy exchange of fresh oxygen for cellular waste products. Kale and mustard greens are among the leafy green vegetables required for proper nutrition. Kale provides large amounts of vitamin A and vitamin C with relatively few calories.

Conclusion

Free radicals and antioxidants are really two completely different things. Free radicals are really an element to avoid but it is very complicated not to be in pollution, under the sun and other external phenomenon that we can not avoid. The only thing you can do consciously is to stop smoking if you are a smoker. To counteract the effects of free radicals, antioxidants are wonderful remedies. Although adding foods high in antioxidants will probably not turn back the clock for you, they can help you to lead a longer and healthier life. So do not hesitate to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables that will help you make a shield against bad aging and help you grow old while still young.
